Michael Andrews is a Registered Paramedic and Health Service Executive who is recognised for leveraging people, processes, and technology to solve some of the most pressing threats to health while enhancing organisational capability and patient care standards.
Currently, Michael is the Executive Director, Office of the Commissioner at St John Ambulance Papua New Guinea – a Council of Ambulance Authorities service that provides the national ambulance service on behalf of the government – providing strategic and operational leadership. In this role, he oversees the strategic and operational aspects of the national ambulance service and corporate and shared services. In addition, he’s engaged by the Queensland Ambulance Service in a clinical capacity and is the Managing Director of Pacific Islands Medical Services.
With over 17 years of experience in St John and ambulance around the world, Michael’s expertise and experience in government relations, donor funding, models of care, rural and remote health, and organisational transformation have been leveraged to ensure health services are fit-for-purpose and at the forefront of innovation.
Michael was admitted as a Member of the Order of St John in 2022 for his work in advancing the objects and purposes of the Order internationally. Externally, Michael has been named as a McKinsey & Company ‘Emerging Leader in Health’, and has been awarded a Pro Bono Australia IMPACT 25 Award as one of the ‘Most Influential Leaders in the Social Sector’. Michael is currently serving as CEO for St John in the Solomon Island
